How To Use an X-Jet

The X-Jet is a specialised nozzle attachment for pressure washers, designed to efficiently apply cleaning solutions to various surfaces. It enables users to project chemicals over considerable distances without running them through the pressure washer itself, thereby preserving the equipment's longevity. This guide provides an overview of the X-Jet's features and offers step-by-step instructions for its effective use.

Understanding the X-Jet Nozzle

Introduced in the 1990s, the X-Jet nozzle has become a valuable tool for professionals in the pressure washing industry. It operates by drawing chemicals directly from a container and mixing them with water just before discharge, preventing corrosive substances from passing through the pressure washer's internal components. This design not only safeguards the equipment but also allows for the application of various cleaning agents, including bleach, at distances up to 12 metres.

Components of the X-Jet System

  • X-Jet Nozzle: Attaches to the pressure washer's lance via a quick-connect coupler.

  • Suction Hose: Typically 4.5 metres long, this hose draws the cleaning solution from a separate container.

  • Proportioning Inserts: Colour-coded proportioners regulate the chemical-to-water ratio, allowing for precise mixing based on cleaning requirements.

Steps to Operate the X-Jet

  1. Preparation:

    • Safety First: Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including gloves and eye protection, to guard against chemical exposure.

    • Equipment Check: Ensure the pressure washer is in good working condition and that all connections are secure.

  2. Assembly:

    • Attach the Nozzle: Connect the X-Jet nozzle to the pressure washer's lance using a ¼ inch female quick-connect coupler.

    • Connect the Suction Hose: Insert one end of the suction hose onto the nozzle's hose barb and place the other end, equipped with a strainer, into the container holding the cleaning solution.

  3. Proportioning:

    • Select the Appropriate Proportioner: Based on the desired chemical dilution, choose the correct colour-coded proportioner and insert it into the hose barb before attaching the suction hose. This step ensures the proper chemical-to-water ratio during application.

  4. Operation:

    • Start the Pressure Washer: Activate the machine according to the manufacturer's instructions.

    • Apply the Solution: Direct the nozzle at the target surface, maintaining a safe distance, and engage the trigger to spray the mixed solution. The X-Jet's design allows for adjustable spray patterns, from a focused stream to a wide fan, accommodating various cleaning tasks.

  5. Rinsing:

    • Flush the System: After applying the cleaning solution, remove the suction hose from the chemical container and place it in a container of clean water. Operate the pressure washer to flush out any residual chemicals from the nozzle and hose.

    • Rinse the Surface: Once the system is clear of cleaning agents, use the pressure washer to rinse the treated surface thoroughly, removing any remaining solution and debris.

Maintenance Tips

  • Regular Cleaning: After each use, rinse the X-Jet nozzle and suction hose with fresh water to prevent chemical buildup and potential blockages.

  • Inspect Components: Periodically check the nozzle, hose, and proportioners for signs of wear or damage, replacing parts as necessary to maintain optimal performance.

  • Proper Storage: Store the X-Jet system in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and corrosive substances, to prolong its lifespan.

By following these guidelines, users can effectively harness the capabilities of the X-Jet nozzle, achieving efficient and safe cleaning results across a range of applications.
